DIAMONDS, GOLD AND JEWELLERY APPRAISAL
30 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE.

A REPUTATION FOUNDED ON INTEGRITY, PROFESSIONALISM AND EXPERIENCE

Yves Morrier has always been fascinated with precious stones and jewellery. He is especially fond of exceptional gems and exclusive jewellery creations. An entrepreneur at heart, he has, over the years, demonstrated a high level of skill in using a rigorous approach to gem identification and certification, and the appraisal and evaluation of diamonds, jewels, watches and silverware. This passion is exactly what has led him to offer his clients a range of products and services that meet their needs.

Mr. Morrier has a solid scientific and technological education in pure and applied gemmology, and is highly knowledgeable about jewellery, including its manufacturing, history, styles and creators. His expertise extends from the North American to the international diamond, gem and jewellery markets.

A graduate of the Université de Nantes in France, the Canadian Gemmological Association, Gemological Institute of America and the International Society of Appraisers, Yves Morrier has worked as a gemmologist/appraiser since 1988.

It was with Les Gemmologistes Associés (LGA inc.), the company he established in 1990, that he acquired the experience and skill on which his current reputation is founded. Through its professional activities he has developed a unique expertise which BIRKS jewellers took benefit of for more than 20 years in using LGA inc. appraisal services for its clientele. Yves Morrier’s competency is regularly required by the police forces, the customs or the Canada Revenue Agency, and Revenu Québec.

He has the skills, knowledge and experience required to serve as an expert witness in court. He is a recognised expert both in the federal and provincial courts.

For 15 years, in addition to his activities as an expert, Yves Morrier shared his knowledge through teaching. He has accumulated over 3500 hours of teaching pure and applied gemmology, and appraisal.

He worked on several projects with the Canadian Jewellers Association, first in developing an evaluation training program recognised under the Accredited Appraiser Program and, in 2004, he was hired by the Association to write the text for the JETS training program – the basic Canadian course given to jewellers throughout Canada, in both official languages. He also worked with Jewellers Vigilance Canada and the Canadian Jewellers Association in drawing up the text of its Jewellery Appraisal Guidelines.

In parallel with his teaching activities, he has spoken at dozens of conferences, both locally and internationally.

With the rapid growth of the Canadian diamond industry, he acted as a consultant for various government and government-related organisations, and for private companies, involved in the development of the Canadian diamond industry and its administrative structures. He also participated in the development of the National Diamond Strategy. Moreover, he developed a specialisation in the evaluation of rough, half-cut, and cut diamonds for financing purposes for several Canadian diamond cutting factories. While studying in Nantes, France, he wrote a research paper about the characterisation of the diamonds mined at the Ekati and Diavik mines.

With the establishment of MORRIER-MONTREAL INC., Yves Morrier adds a new facet to all the services already available: the buying and selling of diamonds, gems and jewellery.
